Minutes from the Jan. 21, 2014, Y-Knot Board of Managers’ meeting at the Clifton Park YMCA, Clifton Park, NY, are submitted for consideration as follows:
In attendance were: Mark Carnevale, President, Keith Edwards, YMCA Camp Chingachgook Liaison, Don Miller, Vice President, Spencer Raggio, and Dan Byrnes, Secretary.
Minutes were read and approved from the Nov. 9, 2013, meeting.
Keith Edwards presented the 2014 budget. He reported that for 2013, Y-Knot ended up with a $3,100 operating surplus.
The 2014 schedule has been approved with up to 22 days including the two days of the Y-Knot Regatta in September. Keith also said he and Dan Kennedy worked over the training manual to be used at the spring training day and for anyone volunteering at the dock on sailing days this summer.
We need to tell sailors that they need to qualify for racing in the September Regatta. Qualifications include a minimum of two chalk talk sessions and two on the water sessions. Sailors can meet these requirements by attending two sailing days, since we plan to conduct chalk talks all summer long–starting as lunch wraps up. Sailors who want to bring along their own companions will also be required to make sure companions make the same commitment to learn about sailing safely and learn how to race.
In addition, we are planning 2 chalk talks this spring, March 13 and March 31, and an additional one on the YMCA Camp Chingachgook work day, Saturday April 26. A syllabus or list of topics for the chalk talks was discussed.
As to outreach, on Sunday, April 6, Dan Byrnes and Mark Carnevale will cover a NYSTRA event in Saratoga Springs. We also talked about sending somebody to Clayton this year, even if we’re not offered support by the organizers, to make up for the event two years ago when Y-Knot backed out at the last minute. Mark is going to call and see.
Regarding the boats, Keith said hull number 13 has been repaired. The damage turned out to mostly involve gel coat repair, but there was a new fiberglass backing plate added to the transom to protect against further issues. Keith said he is ordering two new Dacron sails so now each boat will have race sails with numbers matching the hull.
Spencer Raggio said he is going to follow up with Bob Chodkowski about his offer to donate a Challenger trimaran to Y-Knot. Keith said he is thinking about putting the Challenger on the north dock now on ramps so it will be right there when we get the new crane in.
We talked about the need to change the boom on the Jenny Lift. Keith said he talked to the designer and he has no problem with us moving it back and drilling a new hole.
Our next meeting will be February 18th, 2014, at the Clifton Park YMCA.
