Minutes from the Apr. 16, 2013, Y-Knot Board of Managers’ meeting at the Clifton Park YMCA, Clifton Park, NY, are submitted for consideration as follows:
In attendance were Keith Edwards (YMCA Camp Chingachgook liaison), Mark Carnevale (Y-Knot Board President), Dan Kennedy, Scott Stewart, Spencer Raggio, Trish McCluskey, Don Miller (Vice President) and Dan Byrnes (Secretary).
Keith Edwards gave the Treasurer’s report and told us that thus far this year we have run a $3,776 surplus. He added that there’s still time to make a donation to the new Y-Knot dock and get proper recognition on the plaque being presented at the June 17 dock christening.
Spencer says that Steve Alvey may come down for the June 17 dock dedication and he may bring along Danny McCoy, a Canadian Paralympic champion and one of the developers of the Martin 16 — the boat we sail at Y-Knot.
Regarding the new dock, the construction crew has wrapped up the cribs, lower deck, upper deck and trim boards. Putting in the control building, stairs and railings will begin now with the camp maintenance staff working under Keith as Foreman. We will be installing an overhead door. There will be gutters on the upper deck. Volunteer training day will be Saturday, April 27, and there will be staining to do and siding to be nailed up.
There will be an interior decoration theme on the control building consisting of a collection of 40 old canoe paddles that has been gathered together for this purpose by YMCA Camp Chingachgook Director George Painter.
Keith says the crew from Dock Masters did a fabulous job on the cribs, deck and all the work that’s been done thus to date.
Keith said there are 10 people signed up already for this year’s Learn to Sail, to be held on 3 consecutive Saturdays beginning May 5. Keith plans to deploy 2 or 3 sailboats depending on last minute signups.
Regarding plans to participate in a May 8 demonstration for Team Albany at Stratton VA Hospital, Keith still plans to take a boat down. Trisch McCluskey will confirm the event.
Keith said that he had discussed the Camp had discussed the Jenny lifts with the YMCA facilities people we plan to buy them, and as long as the lifts we buy are certified for the intended use. We’re comfortable as long as the proper documentation is provided.
Regarding the Ti Race, Spencer proposed having a cookout on Saturday – on the dock, maybe a Saturday event. The Ti Race award ceremony will be on the dock also about 2:00 P.M. Spencer is going to take this to the Ti Race organizers so we can get together an email mailing and invite the past race winners.
Keith said the Burlington Sailing Center is still considering our offer to lend the Center one of our Martins for a few weeks this summer.
For the upcoming Alplaus, NY, Chet Watson Maritime Center sailing day in Schenectady on the Mohawk River, Keith said the idea was to look into having a couple of our boats come down and participate. Keith is going to do a site visit and see if it’s plausible and discuss a possible date.
Keith said when we do bring boats off site this year, we have to thoroughly wash the keel and hull and wash out the bilge before we return the boats to Lake George. Since we have a drop keel on the Martins, that would mean taking the boat tot he shop and using the lift to get at the keel. Also means visitors have to come in and do the same thing for which the camp will charge a reasonable fee of $50 or so.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 14, 6:15 P.M.
