Minutes from the Aug. 21, 2012, Y-Knot Board of Managers’ meeting at the Clifton Park/Halfmoon Library, Clifton Park, NY, are submitted for consideration as follows:
In attendance were George Malcolm, Rick Irvine (Treasurer), Spencer Raggio, Dan Kennedy, Don Miller (Vice President), Scott Stewart, Mark Carnevale (President) and Dan Byrnes (Secretary).
The minutes from the March and April meetings were read and approved. There were no meetings held in May or June.
Don said YMCA Camp Chingachgook Director George Painter has proposed having the end-of-the-year Sailabration Banquet dinner the day of the Regatta, in September. Mark asked if that means there would be an additional fee for dinner, because usually we don’t charge anything extra for meals at the Regatta. Mark said he knows of two people who are coming in from out of town.
The new radios have arrived and are functioning great. New slings are here and working out just fine.
As for boat improvements, the bilge pump we were hoping to install within reach of someone in the Martin companion seat turns out to be too big, Don said. He was investigating other solutions.
Mark said we lost one of the jib sails at Mallett’s Bay – when someone took a Martin out for fun on the last day in heavy air. We will replace the gap created in our inventory from next year’s regularly planned sail purchase.
Regarding the water front improvements, Mark says Keith says George has renewed some permits.
The Board discussed procedures for promoting the sale of Y-Knot merchandise. Creating a one page flyer showing prices hats and shirts, water bottles was discussed as a starting place. Rick agreed to deliver such a draft price list. Rick also offered to do fulfillment out of his place of business. At a minimum, sales at the Regatta could be promoted with the price sheet. After that, we might be able to at least put the PDF up on the Web site.
Looking ahead to next year’s Learn to Sail and for other jib purposes, we’ve asked for a smaller jib for the Capri 22. It will wait until next year.
The Board discussed naming this year’s Volunteer of the Year. We decided that it would be Mike Hall, for the second year in a row, but it will not necessarily be redundant. Mike missed last year’s Banquet and never picked up his prize, a gift certificate to West Marine.
For our Regatta, Mark sent out the NOR. Mark has three sailors who have committed.
The next meeting will be Sat., Nov. 10, at the Clifton Park YYMCA, 4:00 P.M., for our annual meeting.
