Minutes from the Apr. 17, 2012, Y-Knot Board of Managers’ meeting at the Southern Saratoga YMCA, Clifton Park, NY, are submitted for consideration as follows:
In attendance were Spencer Raggio, Don Miller (Vice President), Scott Stewart, Keith Edwards (YMCA Camp Chingachgook liaison), Mark Carnevale (President) and Dan Byrnes (Secretary).
Keith Edwards said he’s ordered a new sail and has begun the process of buying the new slings. The sail number will be “Y012” and this item is coming in under budget. No Limit’s jib is finished and wound up costing $550 to repair.
Keith is still working out what this year’s radio purchase will be with the budget planners at Camp Chingachgook, but the camp is considering having us cover the difference between regular radios and waterproof ones—which is a good compromise for our purposes. Waterproof ones cost $500, and regular radios cost $200-300. Do we want to pay for the difference between regular and waterproof radios, about $250/each? We are considering purchasing six radios. Board thought this sounded like a good idea.
Keith also said nine people are signed up for Learn to Sail.
Regarding the new waterfront dock, Keith said we have received our final Department of Environmental Conservation go ahead to begin dredging.
Mark said he and Peter Meixner are discussing Monday, May 14, to demo radio controlled yachts in Clifton Park. Mark and Peter will tie up those plans.
Our usual spring boat work weekend will be only one day this year. Ongoing maintenance is being done so well, we don’t need more than one day as we have in the past. Keith said he has a short list of tasks to be performed April 28, at 9:00 A.M., at Keith’s boat shop up at Camp. The primary task will be to install one of the new bilge pumps to see if they’ll help us by providing a hand pump accessible from the companion seat. Spencer Raggio and Don Miller will be there to provide any supervision necessary. Lunch will be provided.
Spencer Raggio reported that besides him, we had Ron Byrnes, Don Miller, Rick Irvine, John Halloran and Dan Byrnes volunteer to teach in our Learn to Sail classes. We plan to use two Rainbows and a 22-foot Capri for the classes.
Volunteer Training Day will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M., Saturday, May 12th. Our instructors will be Don Miller and one of Keith Edwards, Spencer Raggio and possibly Steve Fletcher. There will be a barbecue afterwards, $20.00 per person, at 4:00 P.M reception, 5:00 dinner. Don proposed holding the training session later in the day closer to the barbecue. We agreed this year training would be 1:00 to 4:00, instead of 10:00-2:00.
Spencer brought up the observation that there’s a crush of activity at the start of July and then nothing for other stretches of time, i.e., latter half of June. We will run the idea by Keith and seeing if we can do something in the latter part of June or July.
