Boating For Everyone… Since 1936!!!

I recently listened to with Charles Zechel, executive director of Boston’s Community Boating Inc.. It’s one of, if not the oldest, sailing programs in the United States, founded in 1936 as a way to keep off the city streets in the summer. During the interview Charles talks about his experiences with blind sailing, adapting some of the programs more than 100 boats to have controls, “like the Martin 16” and his approach to running a community sailing program that is for “everyone” regardless of sailing or physical ability.

I found the whole interview very interesting. If you’d like to listen, go to FurledSails.com and look for “ FurledSails Podcast #78 Community Sailing.” (The interview plays on the web site in Mp3 format) You can also download the interview as a podcast to your iPod if you wish.
