Dear Friends,
Last week I sent out an email announcing Y-Knots annual Volunteer Training
day on May 20th from 10am to 3pm at Camp Chingachgook. Unfortunately, I
forgot to tell you how to register for the event!
Please register by sending an email as soon as you can to Carol Lewis (
clewis at cdymca.org) at Camp Chingachgook with "Y-Knot Volunteer Training Day"
as the subject of the email and your name, address and telephone number as
some part of your message. Registrations must be received no later that May
18, 2007.
Thanks for you support. Sorry for the confusion.
Ron Byrne

Y-Knot Volunteer Training Day
May 20th 10am-3pm
YMCA Camp Chingachgook
If your interested in helping out this summer your attendance at training
day is critically important. On that day we will:
- Introduce you to the Y-Knot sailing program and explain our mission
and what we do;
- Explain some of the special needs of sailors with disabilities;
- Describe a typical Y-Knot sailing day;
- Show you how our equipment functions and give you some hands-on
experience;
- Weather permitting we'll get you on the dock and/or the water.
- Learn how our lift and adaptive equipment is set up and works
- Learn our boats are rigged, and of course
- Have your questions answered.
Please come ready to participate--bring your sailing gear (if you have
some), and dress for the weather.
No matter what your sailing skills are, there's a role for you at Y-knot
this summer. Y-knot volunteers do such things as:
- Rig boats and ready equipment (sailing experience a plus, but not
essential)
- Prepare sailors for the water by helping with life jackets, etc. (no
experience necessary...we'll show you how)
- Captain boats and teach new sailors (experienced sailors only)
- Operate lifts and manage activities on the dock (no experience
necessary...we'll show you how)
- De-rig boats and stow equipment after sailing (no experience
necessary... we'll show you how)
There's a lot to do each time we sail--we look forward to your participation
to whatever extent you are able. It would be most helpful to have you check
your summer schedule and be thinking of the dates you may be available to
help out. Scheduled sailing dates are:
- Saturday, May 26 (Race Clinic, in preparation for the Sagamore Hotel
Y-Knot Benefit Regatta)
- Sunday, June 3 (noon 4 pm)
- Sunday, June 24 (noon 4 pm)
- Saturday, June 30 (noon 4 pm)
- Sunday, July 8 (noon 4 pm)
- Sunday, July 22 (noon 4 pm)
- Sunday, August 5 (noon 4 pm)
- Sunday, August 19 (10 am 2 pm)
- Sunday, August 26 (10 am 2 pm)
- Sunday, September 16 (noon 4 pm)
- Sunday, September 30 (noon 4 pm)
