    The 4th annual Lake Champlain Martin 16 Invitational Regatta was a great success. This year we were graciously hosted by the Malletts Bay Boat Club in Colchester and it proved to be a perfect fit. We had great volunteers, spectators and, of course sailors. Sailors with disabilities came from as far away as Rochester, NY, Lake George, NY, and Newport, RI to compete. 

    We had two great days of 10 knot winds and the competition was fierce. We had 9 Martin 16 boats and 6  sailors with disabilities so we filled the fleet out with 3 local hot shot sailors including the reigning Pan-American Games gold medalist, Bill Fastiggi. The disabled sailors went head to head (or bow to bow) with the non-disabled sailors in all the races. It represented one of the first truly inclusive sporting events in Vermont.

    NDAA sailing results of note were NDAA VP Heather Berg's solid 5th place finish in the new NDAA Martin 16 and NDAA President, Patrick Standen, who took the regatta. See here for results: http://mbbc-vt.org/2006race/447.htm

    The regatta would not have been possible without the incredible efforts of our volunteers, Boat crew (Pete, Jeff and Rudy), NDAA board members, Sailing companions (Janice, Suzy), NDAA regatta committee (Heather, Grace and Dawn), MBBC and their members (especially Marty Olsen and Will Whalen), sponsors, auction donors (see below) and especially YKNOT of Camp Chingachcook who donated the use of their Martin 16's.

    Apart from the great sailing, superb weather, we had a successful silent auction, a great BOVES dinner and lots of fun. We will be holding the regatta at MBBC next year and we're hoping to see more local sailors with disabilities competing.
