Date: January 4, 2006
Location: YMCA Clifton Park
Present: Spencer Raggio (Vice
President), Becky Bonn (Secretary), George
Painter, Maryellen Rudolph, Rebecca Stanley, Ron Byrne, Jenny Overeynder,
BJ Henry, Herm Lintner, Steve Mintz
Meeting Called to Order at 6:10PM:
Spencer Raggio welcomed
everyone and stated that tonight’s main focus is to look at the calendar
and set up dates for meetings, clinics, learn to sail and Y-Knot events.
Need to accept minutes from December 3rd, 2005. Maryellen motioned to accept
and Herm seconded the motion.
Finance Review – George Painter:
Since our last meeting a few other donations have been made; Sunrise Medical
donated $500.00. There is approximately $2000 in the reserve funds. George
will compile the year-end stats and send them to the board. Jenny voiced
concern with the total number of sailors. Although there was some repetition
in the number of sailors the overall total number of sailors and volunteers
have increased over the last few years. A 2006 goal is to make the clinics
free to sailors and through the fundraising and outreach efforts should
help to raise attendance. Clinics will be offered free noting that donations
are accepted. Clinics will be free for first timers and if you join as
a member the additional clinics will be free as well. Group rates will
be $15.00/per person instead of the normal $25.00 per person for non-members.
Discussion leading up to dates:
Regarding clinics – should we continue with the Tuesday nights? Maryellen
said that a lot of Volunteers took off work to help with the Tuesdays.
One was rained out and the second had 2 sailors and 6 volunteers. The third
one had 3 volunteers. So it was suggested to change the night to Fridays
to a Sunset Sail and have dinner afterwards. Management of the Sailors
and Volunteers is key this year. Volunteers need to be given responsibilities.
Communication with Carol needs to happen a couple of days prior to a clinic
in order to “step up” or “call off” the number
of volunteers for the number of sailors attending. Rex was working on characterizing
who is to be considered a sailor vs. a volunteer. Also need to let Maryellen
know when “groups” are coming to a clinic. Need to get a feel
from the groups what they hope to get out of the clinics. Possibly coming
up with a list of questions for Carol to help clarify the needs and desires
of the group. This will enable us to be prepared with staffing, equipment,
etc.
Discussion on the Chowderfest Regatta:
The pre-race clinic will have a Noon start and in theory would be for the
participants of the next day regatta. Saturday night the dinner at The
Sagamore will be open to the public this year and it would be great to
have a strong Y-Knot presence. Attendance, fliers, banners, slide show
and possibly the Martins in the boat corral would make this happen including
having literature and spokespeople aboard the Morgan on race day. Spencer
has spoken with Tony Hall, the Publisher of the Lake George Mirror and
he wants to help promote the event. Commitment is needed from the sailors
and then working on the possibility of having a lift on site at The Sagamore
or close by at Norwal Marina to allow the sailors more accessibility.
Rebecca will start talking to Channel News 9 for the Chowderfest.
